2008 Officers

Alan Shinn, MSW, Chair

Mr. Shinn is the Executive Director of the Coalition for a Drug-Free Hawaii in Honolulu, HI. Prior to this, he was the Executive Director of the Asian Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS) in Oakland, CA. Mr. Shinn has extensive experience developing exemplary prevention and treatment programs for API populations and was a former member of the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Program's API Constituent Committee.

He received his BA and MSW from the University of Hawaii.

May Lai, MSW, Vice Chair

Ms. May Lai is the Director of Program Development and Quality Assurance, Behavioral Health Services of Hamilton-Madison House. She was the founding director and former director of Asian American Recovery Services of Hamilton-Madison House. She has more than 25 years of experience in substance abuse and mental health clinical practice, clinical supervision, program development and management. Ms. Lai has promoted advocacy initiatives in the area of chemical dependency for overall population and substance abuse treatment services related to Asian Americans.

Ms. Lai received her MSW from the University of California, Berkeley.

Joshua Phillip, Treasurer

Mr. Phillip is the Prevention Application Management Coordinator for Western CAPT at the University of Nevada, Reno. Prior to this, he was the Manager for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Programs, National Government, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Mr. Phillip is a leader in providing substance abuse prevention and treatment services to the Pacific Islander communities in the Continential U.S. and in the Pacific Jurisdictions.

Mr. Phillip received his BS in Sociology from Western New Mexico University and is a Certified Prevention Specialist through the Additiona Counselor Certification Board of Oregon.

Susan Park, MPH, Secretary

Ms. Park is the Prevention Director at the Asian American Drug Abuse Program. Before her work at AADAP, she also served in programming and research capabilities at the University of California, Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. Highly committed to their health and well-being, Ms. Park has volunteered with youth for nearly eight consecutive years.

Ms. Park received her MPH from the University of California, Los Angeles.
