Spotlight on "Asian Services in Action, Inc."
Asian Services in Action (ASIA) is a non-profit organization located in Akron, Ohio who’s mission is “to empower Asian American Pacific Islanders in Northeastern Ohio to access quality, culturally, and linguistically appropriate information and services”. While ASIA may seem like any ordinary advocacy organization, what makes it unique is that fact that it is located in the Midwest, where there is a smaller API community and a lack of API advocacy organizations. This makes its work invaluable for the API community it represents
ASIA’s programs include their International Community Empowerment Project (ICEP), Community Adult Mentoring Project (CAM), Youth in Transition Program (YIT), and their Asian American Youth Against Tobacco Program (AAYAT). ASIA also hosts health fairs for the local Asian population, as well as Asian American adult and youth tobacco cessation groups. ASIA’s outreach has benefited numerous ethnic communities in Ohio and it must be recognized for its excellent work in forwarding our communities.
For more information about ASIA, contact Ms. May Chen at 330-535-3263.or asia@asiainc-ohio.org.
