NAPAFASA participated at the 32nd Los Angeles Korean Festival, which took place at the Seoul International park with an estimated attendance of 15,000.

Officer Song Yoon of LAPD discusses the extent of DUI problems in the Koreatown area at the press conference.
NAPAFASA and its community partners held a press conference on September 12, 2005 to announce the launching of the project. Click for the fact sheet discussing the reasons for targeting the Korean American community in this project.
This project has been featured in Korea Time and Korea Daily as well as various newscast in Korean media such as KTAN and tvK24.
The goal of the project is to reduce impaired driving (defined as driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances) and drug-involved fatalities and injuries among Asian American and Pacific Islanders in California.
Data from the California Department of Justice shows that the percent of AAPIs and Others arrested for misdemeanors and felony DUIs (driving under the influence) have steadily increased from 1995 to 2000. Because AAPIs are categorized in the combined category of "Asian" or "Other," it has been difficult to determine the actual level of impaired driving within specific AAPI ethnicities. Through our data collection and campaign, NAPAFASA aims to develop culturally competent prevention strategies and messages to influence those who will benefit the most from such campaign.
The project staff will develop and implement a social marketing and community mobilizing campaign with the Korean American Community of the Koreatown area in the City of Los Angeles. This is a pilot project. Our staff will devise the most effective and relevant campaign possible. We will be creating an Advisory Group composed of service providers, community leaders, and family/persons in recovery to provide advice and guidance on program planning and evaluation. Our staff will work with community groups to present prevention messages at community meetings, workshops, youth and parent groups, and special community cultural events.
NAPAFASA has developed print materials for dissemination in the Korean American community:
